We're all alive.
It's because we're all alive that we're sad.
When we raise our hands and let the sunlight filter through,
we can see our blood coursing through them a vivid red.
Even earthworms, mole crickets and water striders
are all, all alive and all our friends.
We're all alive
It's because we're all alive that we laugh.
We're all alive
It's because we're all alive that we're glad.
When we raise our hands and let the sunlight filter through,
we can see our blood coursing through them a vivid red.

And so they chose to die so that others might live. Happy little creatures, cheerful even in their sacrifice. I cried, and I was sad, and I was glad...

That moment was trully beautiful. Do you know where to find the original japanese lyrics?
J.
I would better like the song itself. Music without lyrics is still stronger than lyrics with no music (voice).
And thanks for sharing that feeling anyway.. I.
that was a very emotional moment.
Does anyone know who wrote this song? Was it Yoko Kanno? -nangadev
Yeah I'm sorry just did some googling, can't seem to find it!
http://wakaranai.animeblogger.net/?p=105 seems to indicate that the song isn't released on OST yet.
In fact, I would go back to that blog entry just to look at the interesting (and rather heavy) discussions on the GITS anime. In fact, after reading so much about it, I feel like going back and watching the episode, or rather, listening to it...
The song is called "手のひらを太陽に" (tehira no taiyou ni). You can find the Japanese lyrics along with a midi here:

Bon-Bon Blanco did a version of it:

So did Lead:

I think I'll buy a CD just for the tachikoma.
I about cried when I saw that part... Kept stiff because I didn't want my boyfriend teasing me about it...
But reading the lyrics makes me want to cry again, it was so sad that they died D: Mechanical? Robots? Not living creatures? Tachikoma go beyond being non-living and living creatures in their harddrive, if they have one of those. Tachikoma were truly wonderful...
And it surprised me that the company got rights to use the Fuchikoma for the last episode :o
