Our new toy

Actually, just accessories to the toy - a PS3!

Anyway - suggestion to others - don't go to Sim Lim to shop, generally overpriced!

Am I old already, if this love is what I aspire to?

From the NYTimes,

Former Justice Sandra
Day O’Connor
’s husband, suffering from Alzheimer’s
disease
, has a romance with another woman, and the former justice is
thrilled — even visits with the new couple while they hold hands on the porch
swing — because it is a relief to see her husband of 55 years so content.

Wow...

Das Weihnachtsschwein

I bought this book by Kinky Friedman in Zurich on a whim. Basically because while in Switzerland I'm feeling my interest in German rekindled again and I think reading a German storybook would improve my vocab. Here goes...

The Ideas that Conquered the World

Michael Mandelbaum's book, recommended by CL - a quick review because I didn't really think it was all that fantastic. The central hypothesis is that peace (or a preference for peace over war), democracy, and free markets are the cultural ideas that have come to the forefront over the last few centuries. He therefore paints the past conflicts - especially the world wars and the end of the Cold War - as a triumph of these ideas over their opposites.

It's an engaging theme but a little too simplified I think - and the simplifications required to make the argument work in the end make me more distrustful of the conclusion. Okay to read, kind of dry, and seriously - much of this stuff is old news.

Once - Falling Slowly

On my long flight back from Geneva, caught this show on KrisWorld. "Once" is not a mainstream show - the camera work, film quality, actors/actresses all aren't professional looking. But it's a very sincere show. And it's a musical done in a different way. And my favourite song? I don't know abt the lyrics, but it sounds good!

Falling Slowly

I don't know you
But I want you
All the more for that
Words fall through me
And always fool me
And I can't react
And games that never amount
To more than they're meant
Will play themselves out

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice
You've made it now

Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can't go back
Moods that take me and erase me
And I'm painted black
You have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It's time that you won

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now
Falling slowly sing your melody
I'll sing along

我的日记 写满的都是你的名 (KeY KeY KeY KeY KeY KeY)

More nice food : Cheese Fondue

Dripping, melting, yummy, cheese.... ..... *salivates*.
Oh wait. I already ate that.

Different experience shopping here

Well the layout is very different from Orchard Road..

Instead of the huge shopping centres of Orchard Road you have two rows of boutiques running along the road, set back at a short distance from a narrow tramway. On the one hand the feeling is just much less manufactured than in Singapore - somehow more intimate and nice. Yet, I can't help but think of the Orchard Road population set into this tiny street. Yeowch.

And the biggest difference - KeY isn't here to let me know when what I'm picking out is just downright ugly. And to pick out nice clothes I wouldn't normally even look twice at.

This is the kind of job I want..

A fixer..

Things I like about this kind of job?
  1. Helping person A to meet person B, who can help person A out.
  2. Throwing parties!
  3. Getting paid to throw parties!
  4. Meeting and keeping in touch with "hip, cool" people.
Now, the tough part is to do this job I gotta be hip, cool people too. Which I'm not. Probably more someone like KeY. Or like Billy and Weylin. or Javiny or Huijuan.

Dang.

Soccernet report

Puffy eyes

Sigh. Had a very terrible attack of sniffies yesterday night. Think it's the dustmites on the hotel duvet, cos after I woke up, blew out a ton of snot, and went back to sleep pushing the duvet back, I managed to get better. Still - my eyes are puffy now... :<

Expensive meals

My first lunch at Geneva - steak at $70 per head...

And a much cheaper dinner at Milano's in Geneva...

Think I won't be eating like that the rest of the way - it's too expensive!
